About Us

At TreeFort Ventures, we believe we owe our clients our cold, candid appraisal of where they are and what actions will carry them toward their goals. It's part of our professional commitment to their success and ours. Noting what's already going well is reinforcing and easily received. Pointing out shortcomings, problems that need attention, issues that may have been avoided because they are difficult for the business' founders or others, is much more difficult to hear, and even harder to address

Our Team

Terry Beard

Terry is the founder of Beard Frame Shops, Frame Central Stores, and Beards Online Picture Framing. His enterprise included manufacturing in USA, and importing product from SE Asia. Terry left the brokerage business at age 25 and launched his first Beard’s Frame Shop with a few thousand dollars and lots of sweat equity.

Terry Beard grew the Beard’s Frame Shops/Frame Central chain, from a single store company with two employees to a 37-store regional chain in the Pacific Northwest with a few hundred employees, providing quality framing services to consumers and effectively competing with larger national chains.

In 1999, Terry merged Beards with NW Framing in Seattle.

During the last 15 years, Terry has been active in a several businesses, and has served on the Boards of Directors for several local companies and organizations, including; Goodwill Industries of the Columbia-Willamette, East Portland Rotary Club, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Artisan Dental Labs, The Neil Kelly Company, Attensa, Inc., and recently with Snyder Roofing Co.

Terry Beard is the author of a new book, Squelched, Finding My Voice, describing the journey of a successful, serial entrepreneurs searching for personal validation and his discovery of inner strength through the power of public speaking.

Nathan Schmitt

Nathan was born and raised Oregon. He graduated from Concordia University with a major in Business.

Over the last several years Nathan has been working with and developing several outstanding companies; American Eagle, Attensa, Infogentsia, Retailmakr, CharlieCurls, FUGU, and PawPalettes.

Community Service. Nathan is very involved in the community. He participated in The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), volunteered with The American Cancer Society and served on the Sponsorship Committee, participated in TEDx Speakers in 2012, and is an accomplished Toastmaster with Toastmasters International.

Nathan at a young age learned the value of building strong relationship with mercantile “movers and shakers,” Nathan a native Oregonian, is involved with multiple businesses ventures in the local community and global community. He has many years of experience in hiring, leading, team building, and business development.

Nathan’s personal qualities include his excellent human relations abilities as he is possessed of a high level of social intelligence, the ability to connect well with people along with the ability to create excellent rapport. He is an intelligent individual who catches on quickly and contributes well to business and personal dialogue. He is a superb team player.

Nathan has been with TreeFort Ventures from its very beginning.

Carol Gardner

Founder of Zelda Wisdom, Inc. an international greeting card line that had licensees around the world. Zelda Wisdom products, (including calendars, plush toys, clothing, figurines, cookie jars, magnets, posters, notebooks, jewelry, cutting boards, etc.), have been translated into many languages. According to The New York Times, Zelda Wisdom, Inc. annually generates over $50 million in sales. In 2006, Zelda cards were the #1 mass selling card line for Hallmark.

Carol and Zelda have appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America, the Today Show, CNBC’s Power Lunch, the FOX Morning Show, CBS Sunday Morning, NBC Nightly News, and the Martha Stewart Show to name a few. Articles about Zelda and Carol were published in everything from the Nat’l Enquirer and Parade Magazine to the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.

Carol is the author of a dozen books and is featured in Chicken Soup for the Entrepreneur's Soul: Advice and Inspiration for Fulfilling Dreams and also in the book, THE POWER OF SMALL: Why Little Things Make All the Difference

Simon Goldstein

Simon was a Senior Manager in Accenture’s Technology Consulting Security practice for North America

He has worked in a variety of technology roles for over 30 years, much of it in Financial Services, but also healthcare, retail, and manufacturing. He has managed the acquisition of IT Security Program Management certifications, including ISO27001.

Simon has lead an enterprise-wide implementation of a leading GRC product, overseen a security operations function, and managed IT organizations for leading online and retail firms.

His professional certifications include:

  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
  • Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)
